Callista Clark was one of the talking points of Country 2 Country last year. It was her international debut performance and the young songstress didn’t waste much time in returning to the fans that had warmed to her back in March as she supported Brett Young on his sold-out run of dates across Europe in November. Clark, at just 19 years old has already made an impact in the writing rooms of Nashville whilst her voice has allowed her to reach a wide audience with the cover songs she has put out on youtube going viral.
With her full length debut album coming out in October, Clark is enjoying traveling around the world, letting her music explore new regions. “I’ve been trying to do a lot more of just sightseeing and the tourist things this time, trying to create that free time to go be able to see different things,” she smiles at me in the dressing room of the Academy in Manchester. That night she held the crowd, which burst the capacity of the Academy 2 and had people spilling out of the doors, in the palm of her hand. Late-comers craned their necks to see the starlet who was acoustically telling her stories from the last five years or so. If Callista Clark had made a big impact on the UK in March, the UK also made a big impact on her.
“You guys seriously are incredible audiences every single night. It’s just the weirdest thing I was told before I came over here the first time that everyone’s super attentive, and they definitely are. They’ll be excited but they’re sort of just silently staring, but when it’s their turn to clap after a song, they clap loudly. It’s some of the best crowds that I’ve ever played,” she gushes. It was at C2C that Clark had one of her proudest moments in her career. “Getting to play the O2 arena in front of thousands of fans. I was so nervous, but it was an amazing experience.”
