The Australian born, Canadian based country singer Mikhail Laxton has revealed his most personal collection of songs to date. The album opens with ‘Dying To Let You Go’, which envelopes the listener in the swooning sound of pedal steel and organ, that traditional country sound. The chorus, where the female backing vocalist joins in, reminds me a little of Chris and Morgane Stapleton. Laxton experiments with his sound slightly on this record as he fuses country with R&B in the song ‘Slow Motion’, meanwhile ‘Leaving You with Less’ is a rock driven number that actually really suits Laxton’s voice as we hear a more powerful side to it. The theme of love and loss runs throughout the record which was born out of a difficult time; fueled by the passing of his mother to cancer in July 2020 and the raging pandemic – music became his therapy. The whole record is flawless, from the production to Laxton’s vocals, he has a lovely tone to his voice which soothes and comforts. The 12-track record is a must-have in any country music fans collection.
