The Super Bowl was full of it’s trademark drama – an extra time win for the Chiefs, plenty of celebrity spotting and a half time show that included… rollerblading?
But there was one announcement that stood out: Beyoncé will be releasing her ‘act ii’ (a follow up to her disco-themed ‘RENAISSANCE’) on 29th March. What’s more, the album will be centered around country music.
So far, there are two tracks that were released simultaneously with Beyoncé’s announcement, the hoedown, boot stomping ‘TEXAS HOLD ‘EM’ and the more story-based ’16 CARRIAGES’. Both of the tracks are accompanied by visualizers that show Beyoncé donning shimmering cowboy hats and her in stockings with a gun holster around her waist. The ‘act ii 3.29’ trailer for the album features snippets of old country, blues and rock and roll songs; Charles Anderson’s ‘Laughing Yodel’, Son House’s ‘Grinnin’ In Your Face’ and Chuck Berry’s ‘Maybellene’ before panning to a shot where a group of men are staring at a scantily-clad Beyoncé smiling on a billboard.
The choice of artists in the trailer highlights the black American contribution to country music from its inception and it is expected that the new album will follow the theme of ‘RENAISSANCE’, which has served as a tribute to the cultural significance of the black community in music.
