The Tamworth Country Music Festival is a major celebration of country music held in Tamworth, Australia. Described by organisers as the largest and longest running country music festival in the Southern Hemisphere, the event transforms the city into a major live music destination for 10 days each January.
Unlike a traditional gated festival, Tamworth spreads its programme across pubs, dedicated venues, outdoor stages and city streets. Visitors can move between free and ticketed performances, creating a festival atmosphere that extends throughout the city. Recent editions have featured more than 700 performers, demonstrating the scale and variety of its programme.
Country music across Tamworth
Busking is an important part of the festival, with performers taking to Peel Street and selected artists progressing to the Best of the Buskers competition. Toyota Park also provides nightly free outdoor entertainment, while venues throughout the Tamworth region host live country music every day of the festival.
The programme celebrates both established performers and emerging artists, while covering different styles and subgenres of country music. The Toyota Star Maker competition provides another platform for developing talent.
