Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson reimagine ‘9 to 5’

Today, Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson have released a compelling duet version of the classic ‘9 to 5’. It comes ahead of the highly anticipated Still Working 9 to 5 documentary (premiering September 16th). The GRAMMY Award-winning artists teamed up with the film’s executive producer Shane McAnally, Sasha Sloan & King Henry to reimagine the classic song into a melancholic yet inspirational anthem over 40 years after the original’s release as the fight for workplace equality persists. Written and recorded by Dolly Parton and produced by Gregg Berry, the original ‘9 to 5’ debuted in 1980 in tandem with the film of the same name starring Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Global superstar Dolly Parton will publish a new picture book about her god-dog, Billy the Kid, releasing on April 25, 2023 with Penguin Workshop, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers. Featuring illustrations by MacKenzie Haley and aimed at readers ages 4-7, Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Makes it Big tells the story of Billy the Kid, a dog who loves barking to the beat of country music and sets out to make it big as a country music star in Nashville. But when he encounters some bullies at the Battle of the Bow-wows, he must call on his favorite songs, and the help of some new friends, to regain his self-confidence and be the star he always knew he could be. “I am so proud to bring this book and the message it conveys to life,” states Parton. “Years back I wrote a song ‘Makin’ Fun Ain’t Funny’ for my children’s album I Believe In You. I wanted kids to understand how harmful bullying can be to someone. When I launched the Doggy Parton line of pet products earlier this year, my god-dog Billy got to be the star of the show. Dolly Parton releases ‘Blue Bonnet Breeze’ from upcoming album ‘Run Rose Run’

Dolly Parton has today released the second single, ‘Blue Bonnet Breeze’ from her upcoming album ‘Run, Rose, Run’. The album which will be released on March 4th accompanies her first novel, of the same name, which she has written with James Patterson. The novel comes out the following week on March 7th. ‘Blue Bonnet Breeze’ follows the lead single ‘Big Dreams and Faded Jeans’ which came out to rave reviews a few weeks back when she also announced merchandise to accompany the release. Parton made headlines during the week as it was announced employees at Dollywood would have their tuition fees paid if they chose to continue their growth and attend college. Starting 24th February, employees at Dollywood who pursue a college degree will have their tuition, associated fees and books 100% covered by the Dollywood theme park. Acme Feed & Seed Unveils Historic Dolly Parton Mural

TomKats Hospitality and Acme Feed & Seed, the bar, restaurant and event space on Lower Broadway, revealed a large-scale mural of Tennessee icon Dolly Parton at a private event this past Friday. Created by local artist MacKenzie Moore – whose recent credits include Kacey Musgraves’ “Star Crossed” album art – in collaboration with CTK Enterprises, the piece adorns Acme’s exterior wall facing First Avenue. Acme is housed in the historic building once home to iconic Nashville businesses like Acme Farm Supply and Acme Feed & Hatchery. “MacKenzie’s work of art brings the spirit of iconic Tennessee artist Dolly to life,” said Lauren Morales, chief operating officer at Acme and TomKats Hospitality. “Showcasing Nashville’s musical legacy and providing a platform for new artist discovery is part of Acme’s core mission. Adding this dose of colorful public art to Broadway, with Dolly’s blessing, is a special honor.” Moore, Morales and CTK representatives were on hand to unveil the mural during the event, where donations were encouraged for Parton’s signature charity, the Imagination Library. During the event, the Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee coordinator Brooke Seigle-Rochelle also spoke about the importance of the charity, which is dedicated to inspiring the love of reading in young children through gifting free, high-quality books to children from birth to age 5. Acme encouraged donations to the charity throughout the entire event. Acme also offered Dolly-themed cocktail specials throughout the weekend, donating $1 for each cocktail sold to the Imagination Library.

Album review: ‘Run, Rose, Run’ by Dolly Parton

This is, in many ways, an unprecedented project both for James Patterson and Dolly Parton plus the entertainment and leisure industry as well. Patterson has teamed up with other celebrities to craft novel’s set in their chosen field before whilst Parton has written music for a brief like a film script. However, this is her first novel and unlike most novel’s, an accompanying album has been written by her. Although she sings each track, she is singing from the hearts of three of her characters from the novel. On the face of it, this could be another Dolly Parton album, it makes sense as a stand alone body of work and is cohesive sonically. In some ways these songs are just designed to punctuate the novel but in true Dolly fashion each song tells it’s own story, there’s a lot of weight to the lyrics as we hear in ‘Woman Up and Take It Like A Man’. It features those lyrics we keep on reading throughout the novel – ‘Is it easy, no it ain’t, can I fix it, no I cain’t, but I sure ain’t gonna take it lying down.’ There is a grit and determination in the lyric that is both relatable and inspiring. Surprisingly, much of the record feels upbeat and driven in spite of the darkness that looms over the thickening plot in the novel. Don’t underestimate the power of the production and arrangement in achieving this; the classic country sound with a shuffling drum beat and busy fiddle has the ability to lift hearts whilst of course there is an energy that is reflected within the lyrics. The fieriness and resilience of the characters she is portraying shines through in Parton’s delivery, particularly on ‘Snakes in the Grass’. It’s a stand out on the record – her vocals are powerful – she sounds her very best here as she projects that chorus. The production is well thought through, the shaker bringing images of rattle snakes to mind whilst the backing vocals take it to a whole new level. It’s a foot stomping number that pushes forward and helps sustain the suspense that runs throughout the book. Similarly, ‘Firecracker’ really helps to bring to life the personality traits of our principal character AnnieLee Keyes. Occasionally there is a more delicate song, more vulnerable. Again, it reflects the story and characters who, though you know it’s there, very rarely show their vulnerable side to the outside world. Those ballads tug on your heartstrings though, particularly the closing number ‘Love or Lust’ which sees her team up with Richard Dennison for a duet made all the more poignant by the string arrangement. It’s not the only duet on the record as ‘Demons’ opens with the sound of Ben Haggard’s voice and Joe Nichols joins her for ‘Lost and Found’. In conclusion, this is a fantastic record that beautifully accompanies and enhances the characters and story told in the novel. Lyrically and musically it is a strong record from Parton who shows there is no end to her talents with this wonderful project. Singer-Songwriter Scott Clay Reveals New Single ‘Let It All Lay Bare’ Out October 13th, Announces UK Tour, and Hints at New Album for 2024 Nashville-based singer-songwriter Scott Clay is poised to make a triumphant return with his upcoming single, ‘Let It All Lay Bare’, scheduled for release on the 13th of October. This eagerly anticipated release will seamlessly coincide with his October UK tour, followed by another UK tour scheduled for early 2024, with hopes of a new album to follow. As the captivating opening and title track off of his fifth studio album, ‘Let It All Lay Bare’ delves deep into introspection. What initially began as a loosely woven melody and lyrics soon transformed into a heartfelt call to intimacy, urging someone to open their heart.
