Ramin Karimloo

Ramin Karimloo to play show with his Broadgrass Band next week!

West End and Broadway star and musical innovator Ramin Karimloo will bring his unique band, The Broadgrass Band to London for a very special one-off show at London’s Eventim Apollo on Wednesday, 15th December. Billed as ‘An Evening with Ramin Karimloo & The Broadgrass Band’, the Iranian-born Canadian singer and performer will deliver his reinterpretations of musical theatre hits, folk favourites and some of Ramin’s original songs all under the Broadgrass style he has made his own – breathing some bluegrass into Broadway and bringing some drama into Bluegrass. Talking of the show Karimloo said, “I can’t wait to return to London to perform these songs with The Broadgrass Band at Hammersmith’s legendary Eventim Apollo this December. We’ll be pulling out all the hits for what I promise to be a celebratory evening that’s been a long time coming.” Known around the world as one of the most formidable talents in musical theatre, Karimloo’s portrayal of leading roles such as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables on Broadway (2014 Tony Award nominee) and London’s West End, and the Phantom in Phantom of The Opera in London, served to highlight why he is a musical force unlike any other. Karimloo immortalised the role in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Phantom of The Opera at The Royal Albert Hall, and originated the leading role in Love Never Dies, the sequel to Phantom of the Opera, for which he received an Olivier Award nomination. In addition, he played the role of Enjolras in the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables at the O2 Arena in London. Karimloo was then introduced to a new audience when he joined the main cast of the BBC drama series Holby City in 2019, playing consultant cardiothoracic surgeon Kian Madani. Karimloo’s style of music is both innovating and exciting as he merges the two genres together seamlessly. The show at the Eventim is bound to be a spectacle not to be missed! The Kentucky Headhunters

The Kentucky Headhunters to make Grand Ole Opry debut tonight!

During all of their years as entertainers, GRAMMY Award-winning southern rock, blues and country group The Kentucky Headhunters have never performed on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. That all changes on Saturday, Dec. 4 when the boys from the Bluegrass State walk into the Opry’s hallowed wooden circle for the very first time. “I must say The Kentucky Headhunters had to take a deep breath, twice, when our USA publicist Don Murry Grubbs called to say we had been asked to be on the Grand Ole Opry stage for the first time,” says Headhunters guitarist and vocalist Richard Young. In the early ’90s when the Headhunters released their debut album, Pickin’ on Nashville, Bill Monroe approached Roy Acuff about having the group perform on the Opry stage. “Mr. Acuff said, ‘I think they are probably good boys and would do a fine job, but let’s get ’em a haircut first,” reminisces Young. “Needless to say, it never happened. We are so looking forward to our first appearance on the Opry stage in 30 years. We still got our hair, too. Well, most of it!” The Opry can be heard at opry.com and wsmonline.com, SiriusXM Satellite Radio (Willie’s Roadhouse), and its flagship home, 650 AM-WSM. Last month, the Headhunters released their first album of all-new material in half a decade. The twelve-track compilation, That’s A Fact Jack!, is available now via Practice House Records (distributed by BFD). Since the very beginning, the Macon-specific confluence of Country music, Southern rock, and R&B has provided inspiration for his work – from hometown legends like the Allman Brothers to Otis Redding and beyond – helping him create a game changing country-rock mix. Here he tips a hat, while continuing to leave his own mark on the city’s vibrant history. Above all, he reaffirms his allegiance to the world Macon represents. The Nashvillains release video for ‘Christmas In A Bottle’

Signed to Fate Entertainment, the newly formed country-rock infused band, Nashvillains, is made up of veteran musicians and writers Troy Johnson, Brett Boyett and Scott Lindsey. Nashvillains’ inception stemmed from the seasoned veterans and musicians shared love of country music and rock and roll. Each member has been successful in their own right before coming together to record their debut full-length studio album, due out in 2022. Collectively, they have written and produced music for feature films, television shows and major artists like The Chicks, Keith Urban, Cassadee Pope, James Taylor, Lauren Alaina, among many more. Band members Brett Boyett and Scott Lindsey first met in a writing session where they shared a commonality on a creative vision; the country music spectrum was in dire need of a rock meets outlaw country presence that flirts with sonic experimentation. Having been familiar with Troy Johnson through the songwriting community, Boyett pinned Troy Johnson and his gritty vocals as a potential third member when he learned that Lindsey shared his publishing company with the sought-after writer; the rest was history. ‘Christmas In A Bottle’ is more than a Christmas song, Nashvillains realise that around the holiday season there are a lot of people who are having a hard time making it through amongst the cheer. With the upcoming music video, they want to raise awareness and be a beacon of hope for those struggling during the holiday season by writing a song that those experiencing loneliness during the holidays could relate to and know that they are not alone.

Taylor Swift

Five things Taylor Swift’s Red taught us

Get out of the way of the song As Swifties, we all knew about the ten minute version of ‘All Too Well’ and for years we have imagined what that would sound like. Now we know! It’s split the fan base with some saying they prefer the ten minute version and others preferring the edited five minute version that we first came to know and love. For me I believe the original impacted fans in an incredible way, and we needed to hear that first. The lyrics tell a clear story, painting the scene in the listeners mind whilst the melody follows a solid structure. All that being said, some of the lyrics in the extended version are breathtakingly beautiful; “The idea you had of me, who was she? A never-needy, ever-lovely jewel whose shine reflects on you” – the internal rhyme here is brilliant! Of course good songwriters revisit songs time and time again and refine them but it’s more than that for Taylor, she’s sacrificed some heartfelt and meaningful lyrics that were probably very dear to her in order to put out the best version of the song, or the version that would land with fans the most. Though her feelings are what inspired the song, she’s got herself out of the way of the song and allowed it to soar. Releasing the ten minute version however, has given more depth to the story, something that die hard fans will appreciate and treasure. You only regret the things you didn’t do When I first heard ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ I commented that it was like hearing the record in glorious technicolour. Similarly when I hear this version of ‘Red’ it’s like my senses are more alive; it’s the same as the original, though the colours are brighter, the sounds are sharper. To me, Taylor revisiting the songs like this, staying true to their original sound signifies that she has no regrets. Many of us upon reflection, though we may wish some things had turned out different, we don’t actually regret the actions that led us to that point. The age old saying of ‘you only regret the things you didn’t say or didn’t do’ is evident in the fact that she has kept everything the same except for the additional ‘From The Vault’ songs which are, like the rest of the record, beautifully written. Music is timeless Nine years have passed since Taylor first released ‘Red’. I remember my mum let me skip school the morning it came out to pick up my copy from HMV. I was queuing outside the shop before it opened and after digging out my old Walkman I listened on the bus back to school! My favourite song after that first listen was ‘The Lucky One’, I don’t know why I just connected with it instantly. Now as I listen to Taylor’s version, the songs take me back to that time. I hated school and Taylor’s music was my comfort but as well as the nostalgia, there are other songs I connect with now at this stage in my life that I didn’t perhaps connect with back then, songs like ‘I Almost Do’ and ‘The Last Time’. Walk boldly into the unknown The way in which Taylor is reclaiming her life’s work is unprecedented – it’s brave and it’s bold. She really is walking into the unknown with this project, revisiting difficult moments in her past and releasing music that’s already been heard the world over. Unsure of how it will be received, she’s doing it anyway, for herself and for her fans and so far it’s working! She continues to make history, breaking records with the achievements and accolades she claims with this project! Art is precious Finally, over the past couple of years Taylor has taught us that our art, our words are the most important thing that we have in our Arsenal. They have the power to heal and to hurt in equal measure, to start and end wars, to burn and build bridges, so use them wisely. They can’t be sold or bought or owned by anyone other than yourself and if, like it’s so easy to do in the music industry, you do let them go, fight to get them back! They are rightfully yours. Emilia Quinn to release a music video for ‘Worse Than Whiskey’

Emilia Quinn shows the world that independent artists can create beautiful art without a ‘big label’ budget in new video for ‘Worse Than Whiskey’. The full video will be premiered exclusively by Maverick Magazine on December 8th! Speaking of the video Quinn said, “The video was directed and shot and edited by myself and my partner Tammy (Tamography). We shot the video in our house, the bath is the same bath from the cover art of the EP itself and the place where I came up with a fair few lyrics featured in Medicate.” “My decision to shoot with my other half comes back to the EP being so personal. It felt right to shoot something so personal with someone who fully understands me and understands the song.” “I’ve always had a love for DIY projects and a strong belief that if you give yourself the chance and take a leap, everyone is capable of creating great things! We’re both so proud of how the video turned out, it actually came out even better than I imagined, and we’re so excited to share it with the world!” Check back on December 8th to see the full video!
