Tortuga Music Festival combines country music, a beachfront setting and ocean conservation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Taking place directly on Fort Lauderdale Beach, the festival has developed a distinctive identity that places environmental awareness alongside its programme of live music.
Since its inception in 2013, the event has worked closely with the Rock The Ocean Foundation, with a portion of festival proceeds supporting ocean conservation. Together with festivalgoers, Rock The Ocean has raised more than $6 million for conservation initiatives, supporting more than 100 nonprofit partners and five universities.
Country music with a conservation mission
At the centre of Tortuga’s environmental programme is Conservation Village. The area brings together between 20 and 30 ocean conservation organisations and thought leaders, with activities designed to educate festivalgoers about sea turtles, marine mammals, coral reefs, sharks and marine habitats.
Interactive experiences include conservation activities, educational initiatives and opportunities for fans to become directly involved with sustainability efforts. The festival also works to reduce single use plastics, support sustainable food systems and minimise its impact on the surrounding beach and marine environment.
Combining live country music with its Fort Lauderdale Beach location, Tortuga offers a festival experience where entertainment and ocean conservation share the spotlight.
