Young Martyrs – “Is There Anybody Out There?”

Rating:

Bath’s alt-americana four-piece Young Martyrs return with the release of their new single “Is There Anybody Out There?” which released April 3rd 2026. This is their first single to be taken from their upcoming third studio album “Might Just Be Enough”, arriving this Summer.

Formed in 2020, Young Martyrs released their debut self-titled album that same year. Their coinciding debut headline tour saw them sell out shows throughout the UK. It led to them sharing the stage with the likes of Badly Drawn Boy, The Hooziers and McFly. This also led to playing slots at a variety of festivals including Glastonbury and Rock Oyster. Their second album ‘Time Is Not On Our Side’ was released in 2023. This expanded their fanbase beyond the UK and saw them playing shows across New York City.

A refined sound shaped by collaboration and studio craft

The new single “Is There Anybody Out There?“ was recorded and produced as a three-piece with guitarist Rich Beeby also taking on bass duties for the album before the band then finalised their line up with the recent addition of bassist Phil Smith. It was recorded at both Real World Studios in Bath and Indefra Studios in Frome by the band themselves. It included co-production from Sebastian Brice and engineering from Ben Koch. The track was mastered by Christian Wright at London’s Abbey Road Studios.

On the single, the band employs meditative, pulsing delay pedal, melancholy guitar chords and sighing melodies. Alongside is vocalist Tom Corneill whose softly despairing vocals convey someone who’s tethered to and burdened by the past. The track cements Young Martyrs knack of packing an emotionally powerful, lyrically rich punch within the gentle vessel of a well-worn Americana-tinged ballad.

Exploring isolation, memory, and the search for connection

Discussing the lyrical themes explored throughout the single, vocalist and lyricist Tom Corneill says, “‘Is There Anybody Out There?’ is a song everyone needs right now. This song is about desperately seeking connection and answers. It’s about feeling adrift as time slips past you, over you, under you.  The single is about loss and missing someone, and missing the good things you once had. It’s about growing up and realising you had no idea that while the best times were happening, maybe you were meant to be holding onto them tighter because one day the moment will have passed.”

Alongside the single, the band have shot their most impressive music video to date. The music video was shot by Quite Brilliant at Twickenham Film Studios. It was directed by BAFTA winning film director Tim James Brown under rising movie company Honey Badger Films.

Tying into the concept of feeling ‘adrift’, they were cut adrift in a literal sense in this four minute masterpiece.

Review

A haunting and introspective track, “Is There Anybody Out There?” by Young Martyrs captures a raw sense of isolation wrapped in atmospheric production. This track  presents a clean, immersive layout that lets the music speak for itself, enhancing the emotional weight of the listening experience.

The band blends moody instrumentals with vulnerable lyricism, creating a sound that feels both expansive and deeply personal. Subtle electronic textures and echoing vocals build a sense of space, reinforcing the track’s central theme of searching for connection. What stands out most is the sincerity, there is no overproduction or unnecessary embellishment, just a focused delivery that resonates.

Overall, it is a compelling release that showcases Young Martyrs’ ability to balance ambience with emotional clarity, making it a memorable addition to your playlist.
