Country music star Lainey Wilson has released her latest single, “Kinda Love It”, through BBR Music Group and BMG Nashville, continuing a busy year that has included new collaborations, chart success and further ventures into television and film.
Written by Wilson alongside John Mayer, Kid Harpoon and Jon Decious, the upbeat track explores the excitement and uncertainty of a developing romance.
The release also sees Wilson experiment with a different musical direction while maintaining the relationship focused storytelling that has become a feature of her songwriting.
An official music video has also been released to accompany the single.
“Kinda Love It” centres on the experience of being drawn into a romantic relationship without knowing exactly where it might lead.
The song brings together an established group of writers, including John Mayer, who has already collaborated with Wilson on her recent single “Phone, Keys, Wallet”.
Kid Harpoon, known for his work across contemporary pop music, and songwriter Jon Decious complete the writing team.
Review
Lainey Wilson’s “Kinda Love It” delivers a playful, rebellious take on falling for someone who represents everything you should avoid. Packed with outlaw imagery, cowboy references and Southern charm, the lyrics capture the irresistible attraction of a wild, unpredictable romance. Wilson balances humour and vulnerability, particularly as her head warns against a relationship her heart cannot resist. References to jail phones, cowboy boots and runaway trains reinforce the song’s country identity, while the repeated chorus creates an infectious sense of reckless excitement. Beneath its lighthearted attitude lies a relatable story about surrendering to love, embracing uncertainty and taking emotional risks.
